You'll Ride
The Ridge Route: South Downs Way
Starting from Eastbourne or Seaford, the ridge route climbs onto the South Downs Way and follows the chalk escarpment with Seven Sisters views throughout. The path runs close to the cliff edge for several kilometres before descending to Cuckmere Haven and the National Nature Reserve. The views from the ridge are outstanding in both directions — the Channel to the south, the rolling Downs to the north.
The Valley Route: Cuckmere Haven
The Cuckmere Valley floor route is flat and spectacular, running beside the meandering Cuckmere river through nature reserve land to the shingle beach and cliff base. This is the route that offers the iconic Seven Sisters photograph — all seven peaks reflected in the river meanders. It's accessible to any cyclist and is particularly stunning in morning light.
E-Bikes: The Right Choice
The South Downs hills are significant. The climb from Cuckmere Haven to the cliff top gains 140 metres in under a kilometre — steep enough to make most visitors regret a standard bike. E-bikes transform this: the motor assists on climbs so you arrive at each viewpoint ready to look around rather than gasping for breath. Battery range is 60–80km, well beyond any tour distance.
The finest cycling route on the South Coast. E-bikes available — no excuses.
