Exceat (Seven Sisters Country Park Visitor Centre)

Free public toilets. Accessible facilities. Baby changing room. Open 10am-4pm daily year-round. Well-maintained and cleaned regularly.

⚠️ On the Trail

No facilities between car parks. The ridge walk from Seaford to Birling Gap (12.7km) has zero toilets, shelters, or water sources. Plan accordingly before starting your walk.

Birling Gap Café

Hot meals, sandwiches, snacks, cakes, ice cream. Full English breakfast, soups, jacket potatoes. Good coffee. Pricey but only clifftop option.

Open 9am-5pm daily (shorter hours in winter). Expect queues on sunny weekends. Cards accepted.

Exceat Farmhouse

Café serving hot meals, sandwiches, homemade cakes. Farm shop with local produce, gifts, ice cream. Pleasant outdoor seating with views.

Open 10am-4pm daily. Slightly cheaper than Birling Gap. Dog-friendly outdoor area.

Cuckmere Inn

Traditional pub 1km from Exceat car park. Good pub food, Sunday roasts, local ales. Popular with walkers. Dog-friendly.

No facilities on the ridge walk. Save money and enjoy stunning clifftop picnic spots. Bring plenty of water (1L+ per person) as there are no refill points.

Distance: 2km east of Birling Gap

England's highest chalk cliff at 162m. Iconic red-and-white striped lighthouse. Can extend Seven Sisters walk by 1-2 hours. Stunning views across English Channel.

Cuckmere Valley & River Meanders

Location: Exceat (Seven Sisters Country Park)

Famous S-shaped river meanders — one of UK's most photographed landscapes. Flat, easy walking. Excellent birdwatching. Popular at sunset for photography.

Seaford Head Nature Reserve

Location: West end of Seven Sisters

Quieter alternative to main Seven Sisters trail. Wildflowers, rare butterflies, stunning views. Less crowded. Good for peaceful walks and wildlife photography.

Charleston Farmhouse

Distance: 8km inland near Firle

Historic home of Bloomsbury Group artists (Virginia Woolf, Vanessa Bell). Beautifully decorated rooms, stunning walled garden. Excellent café. Good rainy-day alternative. Entry £14.

Eastbourne Pier & Town

Distance: 15 mins drive from Birling Gap

Traditional Victorian seaside town. Restored pier with arcade and fish & chips. Wide range of restaurants and shops. Family-friendly attractions. Good base for accommodation.

Alfriston Village

Distance: 5km inland

Picturesque medieval village. Half-timbered buildings, historic pubs (Star Inn, George Inn), tea rooms, antique shops. Popular stop for South Downs Way walkers. Very photogenic.

Day 1: Seven Sisters ridge walk (Seaford to Birling Gap, 6-7km), lunch at Birling Gap café, afternoon exploring Eastbourne town or relaxing at accommodation
